The next new car you buy will likely not have a spare tire.

For a few years, nearly all car manufacturers have quietly stopped including spare tires in new cars.

Why the change? It costs less to simply include a patch kit to repair a flat tire rather than an entire spare, and the weight from a spare tire hurts gas mileage.

Also, many people do not even know how to change a flat tire, so they would not have much use for a spare. In fact, many people simply call AAA or a towing company when they get a flat.
