A chorus of students and parents are giving negative feedback to the plan for healthier school lunches touted by first lady Michelle Obama.

"They say it tastes like vomit," Kentucky school-board member Myra Mosley said.

The USDA regulations on school lunches under the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 have been promoted and endorsed by President Barack Obama's wife.

School officials, parents and children have complained that students are left hungry at lunch and throughout the day because the food offered does not taste good and portion sizes are too small.

Under the regulations, schools must provide lunches with minimum amounts of fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains with a calorie cap of 850 for high-school lunches, 700 for middle-school lunches, and 650 for elementary-school lunches. Each meal can only have one serving of meat or other protein. Carbohydrates are limited to a single serving per student.
