All of you men out there with money in the bank and successful jobs who were hoping to snag the ultimate "trophy wife", science has some bad news for you.

According to a new study, the "trophy wife stereotype" does not exist. When qualities such as how attractive the person is and their "socioeconomic status" were compared, there was little to no evidence that young, attractive women are drawn to well-off men.

In the case of marriage, opposites attract is no longer the norm. Instead, it is more likely that the reason behind successful couples is due to their similar traits and interests.

Most of the time, wealthy and successful people are drawn to the people of the same nature. Now, trophy marriages still happen but not nearly as much as expected.

Elizabeth McClintock, the sociology professor from the University of Notre Dame who conducted the study, said that, "I find that handsome men partner with pretty women and successful men partner with successful women."
